New Home

We are thrilled to announce that Aiken has found a new home in Texas.  He arrived there earlier this week but is already making a big impression.  Aiken will be involved with jumping, trail riding, vaulting and the occasional therapy day.

Here Aiken is giving a ride to his new owner's mother who hadn't been on a horse in 30-years.

Aiken is more concerned about his hay, but the child on his back is delighted.

First day of riding with his new owner, somehow we suspect that the child will continue to find a way onto his back.

Those smiles!  While we're sad to see Aiken go we found a home for him where he can be active, learn new things and above all, create new smiles.  We're so pleased for him.

A Horse of a Different Color

We are so proud of Aiken!  He is currently representing the Fjord breed over on Eventing Nation's website -http://eventingnation.com/home/a-horse-of-a-different-color-ko-aiken/.  Fjords can be extremely talented so it is definitely an honor to be chose to represent them.  Many thanks to all the people who have worked to make Aiken the horse that he is.  Go Team Aiken!

Aiken at Burgundy Hollow Farm Horse Trial

Aiken had a great Sunday (9/28/2014) at the Burgundy Hollow Farm Horse Trial.  He won not only his Starter 1 class but the won the entire Starter division.  We're very pleased with him on this second outing.

His dressage test went well and the judge had good things to say.  Unfortunately the one corner was damp and he slid a bit, resulting in a break in gait.  The judge addressed it in her comments - saying that Stephanie rode it very well, it was a tough choice to make, two strides before a transition and that Stephanie did the best she could, unfortunately it still dropped his score on that element.  The highlight was the halt - a 9! Woohoo.  Overall Aiken scored 8 points better than anyone else in his class in dressage.  Did I mention we were proud?

Aiken's First Horse Trial

With about 45 days of training Aiken took on his first horse trial at the Bucks County Horse Park.  He was in Elementary Division I. Aiken was second and finished up 5th overall out of 11 competitors.  A great start to his new career.

Stadium Jumping

Aiken did well in the stadium jumping.  He did have a two faults but that had more to do with inexperience then anything else. It was his first time hitting a rail.

Cross Country

The boy had fun on the cross country course and promptly soared over all of his jumps.

Dressage

Second place in dressage with great comments and marks from the judge!

Introducing K.O. Aiken!

May 27, 2004 is when it all started for K.O. Aiken.  Aiken is the first foal of the lovely OH Tira, his sire is the imported Stallion Flotron.  His first years were spent with his breeder Phil Juran, then Bruce Haak purchased him as a two-year old. Aiken was broke to drive as a three-year-old and the following year was broke to ride by Joyce Northrup. Here he is winning his first ride and drive class with Joyce riding him.

Aiken has been shown halter, under saddle and in driving classes. Bruce and Aiken won many classes together, including Driving Champion at the Finger Lakes Fjord Show.  When they weren't showing Bruce and Aiken pleasure drove on Rails to Trails and in local parks with various family members. Aiken has been to the Kentucky Horse Park many times for the Carriage Round-up and the National Drive.

Under saddle Aiken has acted as a leadline pony and done walk/trot, while serving as an archery and cowboy shooting mount.  Currently he is training as a hunter and cross-country jumper.  Aiken is comfortably jumping 2'9" as of June 2014. (Video of Aiken jumping is available in another post.)  Here he is with an 8-year old rider while she tries broom polo.

As of June 2014, Aiken is 10 years old and 13.1 (and 3/4) hands.
